Salem / Morrow Fire Department
ISO RATING IMPROVED
Salem / Morrow Fire Department recently went through a visit from the Insurance Services Office, Inc. Which is a company that helps establish appropriate fire insurance premiums for residential and commercial properties, insurance companies need reliable, up-to-date information about a municipality’s fire protection service. ISO provides that information through the Public Protection Classification (PPC) program. Salem / Morrow Fire Department had a classification rating of 6 in areas where there are hydrants. We improved our classification rating to 5 in these areas. We are continuously working on lowering our ISO rating.
What is the PPC program? ISO collects information on municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. In each of these communities, ISO analyzes the relevant data using a Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS). They then assign a Public Protection Classification from 1 to 10. Class 1 represents exemplary public protection, and Class 10 indicates that the area's fire-suppression program doesn't meet ISO's minimum criteria. By classifying communities' ability to suppress fires, ISO helps the communities evaluate their public fire-protection services. The program provides an objective, countrywide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. By securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better fire protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities who choose to improve their firefighting services. Salem / Morrow Fire Department is striving to provide the best fire and EMS service to our community. If you have any question contact Chief LaFollette or Assistant Chief Harrison at 513-899-2222.
